The Sound of Waves

A Poem

The Sound of Waves
The Sound of Waves Angel Morton

I struggle for the details - the sun, the beach, the salt

I can see the party, your smile and the people talking

Me

My head becomes dizzy and the night starts to -

I reach for more

The walk, the house and fade -

then darkness

Pulled back by the sudden light

I try to fit the pieces together

Nothing is there as I dress and go downstairs

You introduce me to your friends, and my confusion remains

Another stroll, the boulder, the pain of my fall

Wanting to wake up, but from what, I'm not sure

The only thing certain

Is the sound of the waves

The ocean crashing, carrying my memories away

A new day comes, and I wake in my bed

In search of the missing pieces

The morning reveals the bruises, the cuts and the unseen

Scars begin to form

You took my body, but I became a prisoner of my own mind

But what you didn't know is that I'm not as weak as you believed

I clawed my way back to sanity and no longer carry the guilt of your deeds

It's your shame now, please wear it well
